With the request for absolution - oil on canvas - 70 x 100 cm

This picture is a metaphor for today. A time full of trials and tribulations in which people repeatedly become pawns, wearing themselves out and ultimately making fatal decisions.

The story behind the painting:

In order not to jeopardize their chances of life after death through the sin of suicide, suicidal people in early modern Europe sometimes resorted to drastic measures. They deliberately provoked their own execution. They usually killed a child, since the child, completely innocent and free of sin, was granted the path to eternity anyway. The sinners, naturally sentenced to death, usually executed by beheading, now had the opportunity to do penance and buy their own ticket to heaven.

Conclusion:

Freedom of the spirit is a great asset and not something to be taken for granted.
